KARACHI, Oct 24: Scores of journalists on Wednesday mounted a demonstration against the continued killing of their colleagues and the government’s failure to provide protection to them.

The demonstration was organised by the Karachi Union of Journalists (Dasturi Group) at the press club in protest against the gunning down of a senior newsman, Khalid Mustafa Mengal, in Turbat on Tuesday.

National Party chairman, Senator Hasil Bizenjo assailed the government of Balochistan over its failure to protect journalists. He said the province had become the most dangerous place for journalists as the assailants targeted them with complete immunity.

Mr Bizenjo said his party would always support the journalists in their struggle for their rights, including freedom of expression.

Earlier, KUJ (D) secretary Aamir Latif said that Khalid Musa Mengal was the 26th Pakistani journalist to have been killed in the last few years.
